Trim Healthy Starter Kit

Trim Healthy Starter Kit

Just getting started?

While you can apply the principles of THM without any special ingredients, there are a few that just make getting started more fun.
Want to get started RIGHT NOW? Here’s a printable designed to help you do JUST THAT if you want to head to the store tonight and grab some staples to get you started! It’s divided by Already Healthy vs Sweet Tooth, with ideas about what a THM day could look like both ways.

There are also some yummy basic ingredients that are tough to find in local stores. But they will have you whipping up THM or low carb recipes from the book or from your favorite pinterest board in quick order!
With certain ingredients, I found that quality REALLY matters a lot with your finished product…these are all winners, and what I keep in my pantry and on my shopping list.

Here are my MOST essential products for getting started that are hard to find in stores, or that you can buy in bulk at better deals on Amazon. Let’s start with some awesome THM products, check out a few pantry staples, and round out with some DIY essentials if you enjoy making and baking.

The book. Because…duh! You need the book to learn the plan long haul. (Even if you just nibble away at it.)

Baking Blend is a low carb flour alternative that’s used extensively for muffins and baked goods in THM recipes.

The muffin in a mug recipes are a great place to start with the baking mix.

Gentle Sweet is the sweetener of my dreams. It’s very finely ground, blends beautifully into my coffee and liquids, and has a nice round sugary sweetness with no bitterness and no guilt.

This is hands down my favorite brand of stevia. It packs a TON of sweetness into the tiniest little butterfly sized spoon (they call it a doonk?)

If you are a DIY girl like me, this is great for making sweetener blends and extending the pricier sugar alcohols for baking. It lasts me FOREVER.

Waffles and pancakes are an IMPORTANT weekend tradition here in my house. This makes it easy, and is THM compliant, unlike any of the pancake mixes in the store.

See comments on pancakes. This is a good brand, and is sugar free without using artificial sweeteners. Enjoy!

Get these. Get lime seltzer water, and pour into a large glass over ice. Enjoy life. The Raspberry Lemon-aid is awesome too…we like all of their flavors!

My Wal-Mart has these for the best price locally, which is around $2 per pack. My kids love these!

If you’re a sweet tooth AND a DIY person (who doesn’t have dogs) this is the sweetener to get. I think it is the closest thing to using actual sugar.

I use this straight, or to make my own powdered sugar, or sweetener blend (with bulk stevia…it makes it really stretch longer!) It’s very finely ground, and just an all around awesome product. It’s also sourced from birch instead of corn.

*Be aware that you may need to start small in using the sugar alcohols, so your stomach can adjust.

For the DIY baker and candy maker…or barista. Erythritol is the gold standard of low carb bulk sweetening.

It is slightly less sweet than table sugar, but I like to use it in my own blend (with a little added stevia). This makes it sweeter, and it goes further in recipes. It’s also non-toxic for dogs.

Flaxseed meal plays a crucial role in creating low carb flour blends and recipes. But you really have to have fresh, finely milled flax like this, or things can go very wrong. And when I say wrong, I mean fishy-spongy.

This is good stuff, and I recommend keeping the extras in the freezer to keep it fresh as a daisy. It will last you a LONG time.

This is a thickener that you’ll want to keep on hand. You may be able to find it locally.Mine lasts a LONG time, as it’s only used in tiny amounts. I use it in making my own blend of baking mix, plus to thicken drinks, soups, and shakes.

Another product for the DIY cook- I use this in making all different types of low carb recipes. If you’re ready to dive into keto or THM baking, this is a game changer.
