I’ve been posting a lot about the happenings in our bluebird box, so I thought I’d mix things up a bit and post a little favorite spot in my kitchen. I ♥ Fiesta Ware.
My Mom loves to tell us stories about her Grandma and visiting their dairy farm in Iowa when she was a kid. My Great Grandma has these fun, colorful dishes that my Mom loved as a little girl. So, when I got married, selecting everyday dishes was an easy choice.
Affordable? Check.
Heavy duty enough to withstand kids setting the table? Check.
Fun, memory making colors? Check.
Easy to find in stores? Check.
Lead free, and made in the USA? Check, and check!
It was a match made in heaven, and I’ve enjoyed them ever since.
I also like it that I can easily mix in other colorful pieces and finds.
Because when nothing matches, everything matches…right?
I’ve always kinda had this thing with birds and nesting. Our wedding cake topper was a pair of birds and a nest. So I’ve ended up with a couple of vintage bird ceramic pieces that have gotten mixed into the cabinet as well just for fun.
They make me smile.
And that green glass cake plate standing behind the birdies…that was my Great Grandma’s.
Our kitchen is on the small side, so I have to make use of every square inch of cabinet space. Standing the platters up on end gives a nice colorful background and also is a space efficient way to store them.
To keep them standing up straight, I hammered a clear pushpin into the floor of the cabinet. I used two for larger platters and bowls.
My dish cupboard makes me happy. Hope it makes you smile too!
